Because the Bible tells us that Jerusalem is the city of God’s King and the location from which He will subdue and rule the nations, Islam seeks with all its strength to control that city in order to challenge the Bible’s claim that Jesus is the divine King of that city.
Why do the nations rage over Jerusalem? They rage in this present, modern age because of an ancient promise God made. He has given the city to His King. His King is not just a “heavenly” king, He is a real man, a real king.
The controversy over the temple mount is ultimately a controversy of worship. God has decreed that His Son will rule from this city and a controversy over that city exists so long as people groups try to achieve their destiny apart from God’s Son.
