It’s 2015 and again Jews in Europe are under siege. We live in the same generation that reads Bonhoeffer and writes books about the blindness of the European church in the 1930’s, yet we are either unable to recognize what is happening around us or too afraid to confront it. Men with machine guns are guarding synagogues, and Jews feel the need to immigrate to Israel just for safety. While the world again turns hostile towards the Jewish people, theologians continue to debate where God has a unique purpose for the Jewish people. This is a profound statement of the condition of the church – will we remain silent?
